• In the past twenty or so years, I have worked in the financial consulting industry advising clients on investments, risk management, and small business.
• I have been associated with E.F Hutton, Prudential Bache, and the private client group at Key Bank and Investments.
• More recently, I have owned and operated the Long Island Store on Long Island, Maine, a seasonal general store where I can keep my eye open for vacation homes and investment property.

Education and Designations

• With a masters degree in education, I have over 20 years experience as an educator and school administrator. I have taught at the secondary level in both regular and special education where I became the Director of Special Education for the City of Portland.
• I am licensed in Maine as a real estate sales agent.

• I am married to Mary Jane McCalmon (Janie Jacobs), former superintendent of schools in Portland and Norway/South Paris. We first met at a joint session of teachers while she was a teacher at Portland High and I was a teacher at cross town rival Deering High. We have two children, Ryan and Sarah.
• Ryan graduated from Cheverus High and Stanford University. He works in Boston when not playing his music all over the Northeast and lives in Worcester, MA with his wife, Sarah Dodwell, who is in medical school. Our daughter, Sarah, graduated from Portland High and the University of Pennsylvania. She is working on her doctorate at Boston University in molecular biology and lives in Brighton, MA with her husband Andrew Betts, a Canadian and electrical engineer. Mary Jane and I enjoy spending time with our expanding family, travel (Africa and Europe this year), and sharing a stimulating book.
